Let me fall
Not down, but backward-
through a wall of sunflowers
The burning orange of summer
Then I will drop to my knees-
press them into the soft soil.
A sweet and solid sleep
where I may dream of every colour-
ignore that they all burned to black
and that I have the ashes, still-
pushed underneath my pillow.
From here, you lift my heavy head,
give a soothing kiss to my broken brow
Let me fall, now- not down, not down.
